To make homemade hoisin sauce, add ¼ cup (60 ml) soy sauce, 2 tbsp peanut butter (or tahini), 1 tbsp honey, 2 tsp rice vinegar (or distilled white vinegar), 2 tsp toasted sesame oil, 1 clove grated garlic, and 1 tsp white miso paste (or sriracha, or gochujang, or spicy fermented bean paste [doubanjiang]) to a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
